David Bowler

David Bowler, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

David Bowler is executive vice president and chief financial officer for American Water. In this role, Mr. Bowler has responsibility for all aspects of financial management and strategy, including finance strategy and planning, treasury, accounting, tax, enterprise risk and internal audit, regulatory services and supply chain functions.


Previously, Mr. Bowler served as Senior Vice President, Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer since 2022. In addition, Bowler served as a key strategic partner to American Water’s COO and utility operations with respect to financial planning and regulatory strategy.


He joined American Water as Senior Vice President of Planning, Regulatory and Financial Services in 2020, and was responsible for leading the Financial Planning and Analysis, Corporate Tax, and Regulatory Services teams.


Mr. Bowler joined American Water from CenterPoint Energy, Inc., where he served as director of finance and accounting. In this role, he oversaw all accounting matters for the company’s regulated operations, as well as leading the integration of the finance teams of CenterPoint Energy and Vectren Corporation. Bowler also served as vice president, controller, and assistant treasurer at Vectren.


Bowler earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Indianapolis. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
